86: Angelique Gilyard

Chef, Cafe’ Esperanza

Angelique Gilyard is a chef at Cafe’ Esperanza is a Pay-as-you-can cafe’ sponsored by Hope Lutheran Church located on Greenwich St in Reading, PA. The cafe’ is a community gathering place for people. It is part of the “One World, Everybody Eats” model offering exposure to art, music, education, and even job training in addition to food.

Covid has taught her to be even more compassionate with others. Angelique did have covid and did lose her sense of smell. This was especially difficult for a chef.

Her wish for the future is that the division and conflict we have experienced eases and that we look at the world with more understanding and compassion. She hopes we begin to realize that we all have so much in common.
