79: Gregory Fletcher
Support Professional at Perspective Burco
Gregory Fletcher is a Support Professional at Perspective Burco. He works 40 hours a week taking care of the assisted living residents in their home and did so all throughout the shutdown. The pandemic didn’t change his role at work so much as it just required him to go above and beyond to adapt and to help fill the gaps when his coworkers were ill. In his personal life, Gregory knows about 20 people who contracted COVID. At work, though, every single one of his coworkers and residents contracted the virus. Gregory was the only person in the building who did not get sick. One of the residents unfortunately passed away from COVID. He was someone Gregory saw every day and with whom he was fairly close. His death had a profound effect on Gregory, who had felt certain that he would recover.
But even through all the tragedy of the pandemic, it made Gregory feel better to see how the work he was doing could make such a positive difference in someone’s life. It upsets him when people don’t wear their mask or when they try to say that the pandemic wasn’t real or wasn’t that bad, because he witnessed firsthand how destructive COVID was. He really saw through this whole experience how deeply precious life is, and he hopes that people are able to come together to be more prepared the next time such disaster might strike.
