During the pandemic, Berks Community Health Center saw an increase in mental health and substance abuse issues, including suicidal it’s, anxiety, and depression. Marisol Perez-Cadena, a counselor at BCHC, saw how the pandemic increased stress within families because of school closures and lack of childcare. Patients of all ages often talked about fear of getting sick and of dying.

When Berks Community Health Center saw the need for mental health care to continue through the pandemic, they provided tell health and in person visits that followed CDC guidelines. Providing support to those in need often helped clients handle the stressors of the pandemic.

Her wish for the future is to return to normal.
